| COUNTRY GAZETTE 10e jaargang - december 1982 Losse nummers ƒ4,- I Bfr. 80 DAVID ALLEN COE Announces tour 1983. David Allen Coe is on the edge of honoring his well earned career in Europe. He came to London last September the on the 28th to discuss the final plans for the tour. After that he flew on to Sweden to receive several rewards, amongst which the Award for Best Male Country Singer of the Year. It doesn't matter to David Allen Coe that his "rebellious", his criminal past if you will is known. According to me it's unimportant. This doesn't do his earnings within Country Music wrong. The man is not only a well earned entertainer/artist but also a well known and very good songwriter. Unfortunately the media in the USA mostly thinks otherwise. To the day, they still try to undermine his success by using his rebellious history. His extireer appearance (outgoing costumes) is one example that is mostly interpreted wrong. It's no wonder that he doesn't do interviews. But this has no influence on his record sales which have been goin up year after year. After his release from prison in 1967, David he set his mind to an career in Country Music. After he signed a record deal in 1973 wit Colombia (CBS) he started to fool around with his audiences and the media. His outgoing style of clothing; a creation of a Rhinestone Cowboy, decorated with Hells Angels' items and a mask was not appreciated by every one. (The mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy). On top of that he showed too often to the world that he had no problem living with more than one woman at a time. And this is something not done in the puritan America. In1974 Tanya Tucker had a no. 1 hit with a song written by David Allen Coe, the song was called: Would you lay with me, in a field of stone. 3 Years later Johnny Paycheck also had a no.1 hit with a David Allan Coe song; Take this job and shove it. No earlier than September this year, David Allen Coe got a passport and a travel visum appointed. Straight away he flew to England; The country in which the media and the Radio stations have always treated David very well. We can expect his concert in late January early February (together with Lee Williams). Six concerts are planned on the British continent. (1983) |
